The adoption of the Regenerative Cotton Standard® is soaring in Tanzania and India, with verified farmer numbers increasing substantially. Tanzania saw an 87.8% rise, reaching approximately 37,000 farmers, while India has nearly 5,000 farmers certified under the standard. The program aims to enhance small-scale cotton farming resilience, soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare, benefiting rural communities and ecosystems.
Auditors confirmed strong implementation of the standard's criteria, highlighting advancements such as more demonstration sites, better access to protective gear, water-saving practices, and improved animal welfare. Tanzania farmers are enjoying increased market access and conservation efforts, while India maintains steady certification levels in Maharashtra. Alexandra Perschau from AbTF expressed satisfaction with the results, emphasizing farmers' dedication to meeting rigorous standards through independent on-site inspections, interviews, and documentation checks that ensure credible verification.
