German frigate takes part in multinational manoeuvres south of Cyprus

(is associated with: «German frigate takes part in multinational manoeuvres south of Cyprus») Hauke-Christian Dittrich/dpaNaval vessels from five countries including Germany held an exercise off Cyprus earlier this week, the Cypriot National Guard said on Wednesday.Units from the German, Greek, US, Italian and Cypriot navies took part on Monday in the manoeuvre, dubbed "Cyprus Arrow."The exercise was intended to "deepen cooperation with friendly states," the guard said.Those involved included the German frigate Baden-Wuerttemberg, further frigates from Italy and Greece and a US destroyer.The Baden-Wuerttemberg is currently operating in the eastern Mediterranean as part of the UN's UNIFIL mission, which monitors the ceasefire in Lebanon and is intended to contribute to stability in the region.The security situation on Cyprus is tense because of the US-Israeli war against Iran, launched on February 28.In early March, the British military airbase RAF Akrotiri near Limassol was hit by a drone. According to Cypriot information, it was a Shahed-type drone of Iranian design. The attack caused minor damage and there were no injuries.
